Our Mission

The New York State Society of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery (NYSSDDS) is the statewide medical specialty society of board-certified dermatologists practicing in New York State; and state affiliate of the American Academy of Dermatology Association. As part of its mission, the NYSSDDS is dedicated to the harnessing the power of its membership for the advancement and practice of dermatology in New York State through education, research and advocacy. NYSSDDS strives to promote and assure high quality dermatologic care for patients.

The practice of dermatology includes the diagnosis and medical/surgical management of the skin, hair, and nails to support and enhance patient care for a lifetime of healthier skin. Physicians specializing in dermatology have completed four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school, three years of residency and total of 12,000-16,000 patient care hours before becoming board-eligible or board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

NYSSDDS consists of three tiers of membership including: (1) physicians specializing in the practice of dermatology currently practicing; (2) physician who is in an accredited dermatology training program ; (3) and those who semi-retired or retired. The benefits of membership in NYSSDDS includes opportunities for continuing education to enhance clinical practice and administration, annual meeting/conference, events and opportunities to network with colleagues and an advocacy program that works to preserve the practice of dermatology and welfare of dermatologic patients.

What we do...

  • Serve as the premiere statewide medical specialty society in NYS for dermatologists;

  • Advocate for our members on legislative and regulatory matters as they concern the dermatological profession and practice in New York State;

  • Protect patients’ rights to safe dermatological care and treatment;

  • Help members continue their education and training by promoting life-long learning and excellence in the field of dermatology and dermatological surgery;

  • Mentorship and networking opportunities, including for early career dermatologists.
